General informations to the name Riebeling and the family-association:
The name Riebeling could be traced back in the Schwalm-area until the beginning of the 15 century [Reverend Ruetz, 1972]. In old documents
from this area, the spellings are Rybelin, Rybelyn, Reiblingck, Reiblingk, Reibling, Riebeling, Rybeling, Ribling, Riebling, Reibeling, Rybel, Reibel, Rebel, Rübling and Rübeling
or Rübelein, often side by side. Writing by the hearing, dialect-forms as well as development of the language and others just up to the standardization through the 'Personenstandsgesetz'
(law of personal state) of 1874 led, even if near members of a family got within a short time an enrollment, to different writing-forms of the name. With all living bearers of the name
Riebeling, Rübeling, Riebling, Rübling and Reibling, whos predecessors lived in the area of the Schwalm, it is about one single name however [Reverend
Ruetz, 1965]. The predecessors of one ancestral home of the family-association are going back about 19 generations.
With joy and also with a certain pride, we can look back on the rare event of at least 600 years of history of the Riebelings in the Schwalm.
The foundation of the "Family-association Riebeling on the Schwalm"
at June, 10th 1930 in Marburg is a proof of the distinctive sense for family
of the Riebelings. Legally, this association is a not registered union of descendants
of different ancestral homes who were formerly, and sometimes still today, located
in the area of the Schwalm, whos relationships up to now are not verifiable.
As purpose and task of the family-association is named by the statute:
| - |
cultivation of the personal relationships of the families among
each other through Family-meetings and other events; |
| - |
research of the history of the family; |
| - |
managing of an archive of the family; |
| - |
yearly publication of a family-newspaper. |
In the year 2000 we had the seventieth anniversary of the foundation of the
family-association. For the just two hundred families, who are member of the
association, the "Family-meeting 2000" is an exceptional jubilee-event
in double meaning.
In case of this particular occasion a monument
was revealed at a fieldsedge near by Gungelshausen, that belonged approximately
600 years ago to the Riebelings-farm of Gungelshausen.
Hier are valid the words of Goethe:
"Wohl dem, der seiner Väter gern gedenkt,
der froh von ihren Taten, ihrer Größe
den Hörer unterhält und still sich freuend,
am Ende dieser schönen Reihe sich geschlossen
sieht."
With this 'Riebelingstein' we will express the conviction and hope that future
generations will keep the old family-traditions and cultivate them as blessing
for the family. May this stone be a place for the meeting and the memory for
the Riebeling from the Schwalm.

From the history of the family-association:
The foundation of the family-association of Riebeling in the year 1930 was
decided by the descendants of the forebear Magnus Riebeling to Willingshausen
(GB p. 28). With that an idea was realized, which was originated just one year
before by the cousins Georg Riebeling (GB p. 68), Wilhelm Riebeling (GB p. 55)
from Marburg and Konrad Riebeling (GB p. 67) from Cölbe with their families
[Riebeling, G. 1930]. To the first members you can count
Magnus Riebelings (GB p. 50) and Friedrich Georg Riebeling (GB p. 50) from Kassel,
Oskar Hütteroth (GB p. 53) from Treysa, Konrad Ermel (GB p.32) from Willingshausen,
Georg Heinrich Riebeling (GB p. 39) from Marburg and Johann Heinrich Riebeling
(GB p. 36) from Elnhausen, near Marburg.
The first statute restricted the membership only to the families, who decended
from this ancestor or his predecessors. 27 families with together 56 persons
came to the first family-day in Marburg. In the first family-newspaper, appeared
Christmas 1930, the priest Magnus Riebeling from Kassel, who was chosen to the
first presidential, already wrote '"dann laßt die Grenzen der Familie
nicht zu eng ziehen und uns im Geist grüßen als Glieder eines Stammes,
der großen Familie Riebeling, die über Hunderte zählt"'
(don't let us pull borders of the family too narrowly and let us great in the
spirit as limbs of one tribe, the big family Riebeling, that counts more than
a Hundreds". 160 persons of the ancestral home of Gungelshausen were present
on the second family-day in 1931 in Treysa, and they were the proof for the
great relational interest and distinctive Family-sense. With the fourth family-day
in the year 1933, a statute-alteration took place, so that also other bearer
of the name could become extraordinary members into the association.
In the "news of the family Riebeling on the Schwalm" No. 6 of 1937
a call was sent to all bearers of the names Riebeling, Riebling, Rübeling
and Rübling and other Spellings, to become member in the family-association.
On the fifth family-day in Marburg at 1938, this expansion of the membership
and a family-meeting every two years finally became fixed in the statute. At
this time many other descendant families of the ancestor of Gungelshausen, the
ancestral home of Seigerthausen/ Röllshausen as well as Riebeling and Rübeling
from Oberrosphe came to the association. Meanwhile the stand of members had
risen to 60 families. Regarded as member was a family or individual with own
salary.
Shortly afterwards Riebelings of the other two anecestral homes named in
the Geschlechterbuch volume 159 also belonged to the family-association. A planned
ceremony for the 2nd and 3rd Pentecost-day 1940 because of the 10th anniversary
of the family-association had to be canceled because of the war-events. The
family-newspaper, published statutory as organ of the association since the
association-foundation, a dependable documentation of all family-events, still
appeared as 10th edition at Easter 1942. Up to the publication of the next "news
of the family Riebeling Nr. 11" there had to pass 13 years. The activities
of the family-association in this time had not completely rested at all.
The first meetings of the family-association after the World War II took
place first at 1957 in Treysa. With the election of the executive-committee
Georg Riebeling, Marburg, who held this function since 1938, was chosen
again as chairman. The task fo the Secretary was taken by Heinz Rübeling
(GB p. 260), while Hans Riebeling (GB p. 164) from Marburg still stayed
as cashier. The head of our family-newspaper was changed this year, after a
design of the painter millers from Frankfurt/ Main had been assumed by the members.
The index of membership of the year 1957 shows 81 families.
In the year 1960 family-association could
acquire an old oak-chestfrom the Schwalm, that was manufactered in the year
1844 for Anna Catharina Rübeling from Sachsenhausen. As a loan from our
family-association to the museum of local history in Ziegenhain, it serves meanwhile
since 40 years for the storage of important files, records and results of the
genealogy research as well as the family-newspapers.
The reports about the genealogical researches about the Riebelings from the
Schwalm by Prist Ruetz were the focus of all family-meetings until in the 70.
Since September 1967 there exists a first manuscript for a distribution of the
Geschlechterbuch, Schwalm-volume. On the family-day 1967 in Riebelsdorf cousin
Oskar Riebeling, Bieberach/ Riß, became the new chairperson of
the family-association. Cousin Georg Riebeling, who held that function
since 1938 with untiring commitment, had asked for release of this task because
of his high age of 83 years. Cousin Heinz Rübeling became the function
of the second chairpersons. The index of membership of 1968 showed an enlargement
to 151 families.
At the family-day in Röllshausen in
the year 1969 Heinz Rübeling was elected for first chairman and
Rolf Hoffesommer (GB p. 36) for the second chairperson, the function
of the cashier further remained in the approved hands of Hans Riebeling,
Marburg. So he already managed the tasks of the cashier until into the time
of the World War II, he took up again this activity with big conscientiousness
until the year 1972 - thas means 15 further years. He was followed by Karl
Riebeling (GB p. 122) who occupied this important task with big prudence
and dependability over many years until 1995.
In 1972 volume 159 of the german Geschlechterbuch - 19th special Hessian
volume - 2nd volume of the Schwalm was published by C.A. Starke in Limburg.
This Geschlechterbuch about five old ancestral homes of the Schwalm was written
by our honorary-member Priest Gottfried Ruetz. The ancestors Riebeling and their
descendants have a special meaning in this edition.
A membership of 151 families in the year
1974 shows the prolonged interest in the work of the family-association. The
often repeated request of members for more frequent meetings led at the beginning
of the 80. to the insertion of a "small family-day" between the statutory
two-year reunion. In the year 2000, we therefore could celebrate - despite war-conditional
interruptions - the 36th family-day. Twenty meetings were organized by Heinz
Rübeling, Alsfeld, who exerts himself untiring and selflessly from
1969 until few days before his death in the year 1998 as first chairperson for
the cohesion and the contacts between the families and all activities of the
family-association. That the family-association could count up to the year 2000
just 195 families as members we have to owe to the decades of work of cousin
Heinz.
With the edition of the year 2000, we can
look back to 56 editions of our family-newspaper, in which a fullness of information
about events in the family-association in the last 70 years and a big number
of research-results has been published.

The coat of arms of our family:
By inducement of the co-founder of the family-association Georg Riebeling
the art-heraldrist and glass-painter Carl Busch, Berlin, worked out the here
portrayed coat of arms of the family-association of Riebeling in the year 1942.
The coat of arms shows a silvery 'ING-rune' in the red shield with golden passed-through
five-leaved oak-branch. The ING-rune shows as salvation-signs of the fertility
the ending of the surname. The oak-branch symbolizes the ancestral homes of
the in the Family-association joined together name-bearers. The helmet-ornament
is built from two golden ears with a golden six-ray-star. The helmet-cover is
decorated in the colors of the country Hessen, red-silver (=red-white). The
ears of the coat of arms-ornament symbolizes the origin from the peasantry.
The star, you can also find in the coat of arms of the Counts of Ziegenhain,
is a hint on the landscape of the Schwalm, that is the origin-area of the Riebelings
of our family-association.
